Manifesto

The Mission of Tilt the Line is to educate and assist Filmmakers on the aspects of Filmmaking that take place off the set.

Filmmakers are blessed with choices when it comes to learning and practicing their craft. You can instantly find information on the latest gear, production techniques and business developments. All of those things are important to us, intertwined with everything we do as Filmmakers.

Something that we forget sometimes, however, is that life continues on when we get off the set. Filmmaking as a profession is demanding on every front. Neglecting that life can lead to many problems including burnout, poor health habits or financial instability to name a few.

Yet despite it all, we still love it. That's why we are who we are and do what we do. So how do we keep up with it all?

That's what Tilt the Line is for. Our on-set activities are very important, and we do cover those things when they're relevant. But what we do is cover everything outside of that. Here are some examples:

  • You already know the latest camera specs, but do you know how to manage the gear you already have?
  • You know how to write a script for an audience, but what about a fundraising pitch to potential investors?
  • You might know what to pay people when budgeting a big production, but what about setting your own rates for small-to-medium productions?
  • Budgeting a production is relatively straightforward, but what about investing your savings?

You can see how we could all use some education and assistance on the later points. The smoother things are off-set, the smoother they are on-set. Think of it as Pre-Pro for your life.
